One of the best places I visited while in India was the Bishnoi Village just outside of Jodhpur. These people are a different class then most and pride themselves on their appearance and grooming habits. They get enough tourist now that some homes are all set-up for them and wait around during the dry season when there is no work in the fields for tourist guides to bring photographers and gawkers to see them.
I know why I wanted to go because I wanted to do portraits of these people. My guide took me to one house and I had a great time snapping shots off and talking with the father. After we got done my guide wanted to take me back into the city but I asked “Let’s go to another house, I’m just getting warmed up and want to get more people photos!” He thought for a minute and said he knew maybe one other house near by that we could stop and check out. The only people there was a one-eyed old man and his daughter who I thought secretly wanted to be a model (see photo above). The light was perfect and she was so much fun to photograph. I didn’t have to say a thing but hold up my camera and start snapping away. She would change positions every second shot and I remember thinking to myself “Why don’t half the models I photograph know what she knows?”
