One of the best parts of staying in Varanasi, India for me wasn’t so much the ghats along the river but just getting lost on the side streets with my camera. Anyone who visits Varanasi for the first time will know what I mean because finding your hostel that you booked online is almost impossible the first time. It’s a maze of streets that seem to have no logic to them, full of animals and feces, trash everywhere to some of the most interesting people you will ever see.
I took this photo while walking back to my hostel one day. I passed the little alley way and noticed the lady cleaning with her broom, so I backed up a few steps, set up my camera and peeked around the corner to fire off a few snaps. She never noticed me as I was about 50ft away. A simple task of cleaning the streets is what gets me to stop in my travels… weird right?
