The Golden Temple, the most holiest place in the world for the Sikh religion
One of my favorite places in India was Amritsar. It is located in the north western part of India close to the Pakistan border. It is also the HQ for the Sikh religion. Many Westerners confuse Sikhs as Muslims because they wear a turban but if I had to explain what Sikh religion was to someone who didn’t know a thing about it, I would sum it up as a mix between Muslim and the Hindu religion. But one thing should be noted, Sikhs went to war with Pakistan and never really forgave them afterwards and I’m not saying all Sikhs hate Muslims but in general I wouldn’t be surprised (at least Pakistani Muslims that is).
Entering The Golden Temple (also referred to as Harmandir Sahib) at night is a very spiritual event. You must enter barefoot and wear a cover over your head (men and women). What is kind of special is that everywhere you walk there is someone giving you water or something to eat. You can’t leave the place hungry, it’s just impossible and I think it’s a true testament of the religion that everyone is equal (minus the fact they hate Pakistan).
