It might not look like much but once inside this place grabs you and you never forget it!
Fast Eddie’s Bon-Air is like no other bar I have ever been to! In fact it’s my favorite bar in the whole world I’d say. Why you ask? How about over 4,000+ barrels of beer, thousands of cases of cans, bottles and liquor sold every year from this hole in the wall place. That’s 75+ kegs per-week sold, just the kegs!
Some even say that Fast Eddie’s Bon-Air is the #1 volume bar in the USA!
But that is only a small part of it, what draws most people is the food. Food was added due to popular demand, serving grilled burgers (1/2 lb Fat Eddie Burger for $0.99), shish-kabobs called “Hot Chic on a Stick” or “Big Elwood on a Stick” or jumbo shrimps for $0.29 each, all sold at the same low prices as when they were added 20 years ago. Sorry no carry-outs allowed, cash only and there is a two drink minimum, so if you order water your still going to be charged for a beer no matter what. I rather like that!
For $5 you can get a Fat Eddie Burger, a pork kabob, french fries and 3 jumbo shrimps!
What I like best about this bar is that you can find bikers next to business guys in suits eating and drinking. The building was opened by Anheuser Busch in 1921 but approximately ten years later, Anheuser Busch had to sell the tavern due to a change in the statutes of laws, which prohibited breweries from owning drinking establishments. A father and son bought the bar and ran it for the next 50 years until, keeping it low key until Eddie Sholar (alias Fast Eddie) purchased Bon-Air in 1981. It went from 80 chairs to 400 and now you can pretty much expect to be standing while you eat and drink if you go during the evenings. Weekends has live bands that crank out tunes from the 80′s, blues rock and anything between.
