During the week long celebration of the Feria de Las Flores in Medellin, Colombia, they have an antique car show and parade on Saturday, a day before the actual Flower Parade takes place. I went last year but showed up so late that by the time I found a spot to get some photos, the parade had ended. This year I was determined though not to miss it.
Lucky for me, the apartment where I am staying at in Medellin is only a 2min walk from the main street where the parade route would be. So a friend, David from MedellinLiving.com, and I walked out there early enough to ensure a good spot along the road. We found a prefect spot where there were very little people and had an unobstructed view of the road.
I have to admit I am surprised at how many old hot rods there were in the parade, plus to boot all the old classics. I’m not saying Colombians aren’t big car fans but was just surprised (but happy) to see that they love classic American muscle cars to.
One thing different about this car parade versus the ones you would see in the USA, is that the people driving and riding in the cars all dress the part. If you have a car from the 70′s, everyone in the car dressed as hippies. If it was a ’56 Chevrolet then you had your suit and boulder hat on. The ladies especially go all out and it feels like a time warp when the cars go by. Though I will say more girls in swimsuits would have added a little bit more touch of that American style to the car show.
Nice thing about the car show was that all the cars had the year and make of the vehicle displayed on the front windshield, so you knew what the car was without guessing. They also staged the cars by decade which was pretty cool I think.
The whole family packed up and loaded into a motorcycle. Not sure what kind of bike it is though.

Even though it was a car show you still had a few crazies show up with different modes of transport. M.Gandhi on the far right is priceless! Almost as good of a look alike as the one I found in India (click here to see the photo).

The only car I seen that didn’t make it. Radiator hose or something broke and they had to push it to the side for towing. Ahh but at least they still have Hawaii!
