. The Son of Man by Rene Magritte
I got an artist to answer some questions finally about his work. First, scroll through and check out all the photographs first, then come back and read why he made them and how.
→ What inspired you to make the paintings?
The images were inspired by all the Art History courses I have been taking during my time at the University of Iowa. In a way it was a way to give a face to pieces of artwork that I’ve had to learn about and that are popular among many people.
→ How would you describe them in your own words?
I would describe them as taking art at face value. This was my way of projecting some of the most influential artists onto myself and my work. At the same time, creating something different and simple out of the inspiration.
→ Are the original paintings favourites of yours?
Yes, these paintings are some of my favorites. Some of them were the first pieces of art work that really caught my eye when I was younger.
→ Who is the boy in the photograph?
The boy in the photographs is actually myself. I actually painted and photographed the images myself.
My Thoughts:
It’s hard for me to stay what I like best about this guy. For starters he’s only 20 years old and is producing some very creative work. How about the fact that he painted his own face to make these images or that he photographed himself as well. When I seen his “Faces Artist” set on Flickr, I just thought of one word “Brilliant!”
Most of the paintings I recognized without having to read the names but there were a few that were a little harder. That said, the detail he did painting his face was remarkably so good that it leaves you wondering how he did it, especially the Van Gogh, Warhol and Banksy pieces. Check out his Flickr page and be sure to see his Project 365 photos as well. I’m looking forward to seeing more stuff done by him in the future!
On a side-note, my personal favorite was the Pollock because it looks so striking on his face and is easily recognizable. What is your favorite of the set and why?
