“As a travel photographer, my studio is the world outside my door and the only equipment required is a camera and a willingness to look for new perspectives. Lighting comes courtesy of whatever is available; sun, sky, tungsten and neon – travel photographers have access to it all. We are not restricted by subject or location, only by an obligation to record the world we see with honesty and compassion. More than just exotic locations and wild
adventures, travel photography is about seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes and childlike enthusiasm.” ~ Gavin Gough
My Thoughts:
I actually got to meet Gavin two years ago while living in Bangkok, Thailand. I was having some problems on my first website and he happened to have the same template as I did. He generously took an evening off to meet up with me and show me some things on it. I wish I hadn’t been so dumb and asked him only about my website when I should have been asking him about photography. His work is outstanding and it always seems he’s in the right place, at the right time to get that perfect photograph. Truth be told he is because he can find a good photograph anywhere, at any location and to me this is what defines him. His use of natural light is some of the best I think and it makes his photographs look dreamy or even mystical in a way. Look around at his photo gallery and be sure to check out his Tibet, India and Bhutan photos. If I get one photo even comparable to any of those, I’ll be really happy!
