Liu Bolin is a Chinese artist known for painting himself to blend in with his surroundings, afterwards he then photographs himself to document it. Bolin’s work first appeared in a solo show in 1998 and since then his work has received international recognition, even at the dislike of the Chinese government. This current series of work is a protest against the government who have been censoring artiest in China, as it represents not fitting into modern society. Despite problems with authorities he still works and advocates for more rights for artist and people of China.
My Thoughts:
You might have seen this guy on Yahoo News bits a few months ago, as that’s how I stumbled onto his work. Even now after I look at some of his stuff I’m still left wondering, “How did he do it? Come on, it must be photo shopped!”
I know personally that I just don’t have the attention to detail, or artistic ability at that, to be able to pull even one of these shots off. Take that and compound it with pressure from the Chinese government trying to shut him down and you have in my opinion a modern day Che Guevara of the art world. I can respect anyone who is like that, plus it’s just plain fun looking at his photographs as well! Which one do you think was the hardest one to make?

The photo above fooled me the most. What do you think about this artist? Is his work novel, original or inspiring? Do you know another artist who does similar work like this? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
