Sorry for being gone the last couple of days. I figured you wouldn’t read anything I wrote anyways, as everyone should have been spending Christmas with family and loved ones. As for me, I spent the holidays here in Quito, Ecuador (by-the-way- Ecuador is in South America and not Africa as some people have been surprised when I corrected them on that). I spent the 24th with the girlfriend’s family at their house. We had a late dinner and opened presents that night. I got an new alarm clock (my old one didn’t work anymore), a book about an American who came to Ecuador in 1940 with the Peace Corps, called “Living Poor” and a tin full of cookies. Think I came out pretty good and was quite happy with my new toys.
Christmas day was spent having a typical Ecuadorian Christmas meal at the girlfriends aunt’s house. Ecuadorians eat turkey for Christmas and not ham, so that was a little different for me. There was about 10 people in total and I ate way too much, so much that I took a nap on the couch after lunch (now that felt like being home). They all laughed at the “gringo” sleeping but I told them afterwards it was American to do so after a big meal on a holiday. It’s a nap or football game and since nothing was on the tube I opted for the nap.
Overall had a great Christmas and am looking forward to New Years. I hear they burn people in the streets on New Years Eve and that the men dress as women for money… I’ll explain more later!

Manger scene that all Ecuadorians put up for Christmas. Some go all out and can be as big as 5x10ft large!
