FOGG Notes: I met him in downtown Havana selling paintings. Actually he was scratching out a piece with chalk of a mural our tour had stopped to look at on the side of a building. Since the guide was talking in all Spanish I started walking around and that’s when I seen him. I walked up, leaned against the wall where he was and watched him for a minute. He looked up and started saying something in Spanish to which I replied that I didn’t understand. He said English and proceeded to show me his work. 1/2 I didn’t care for but the other 1/2 I found very striking. I asked him if I could take his photo and ask a few questions and he said “Ok, as long as I don’t have to pose.” Not wanting to miss this opportunity I said “cool” but found it hard to get a good picture of him. Keeping to his request, I didn’t want to ask him to look at the camera, as my friend was sitting to his camera left shoulder and he always had his head sideways. I was about to go crazy and trying to think of every which way I could to get him to look my way without asking…but in the end I just got lucky and snapped away. I personally think the above picture is one of the best I have taken so far for the Faces Series. Just the color, pose and facial expression was perfect!
