Got back finally from Cuba and although I got harassed at the airport big time (don’t ask as I said my peace in post before) I still had a great trip while there. I spent 3 nights in Havana, 2 nights in Trinidad and 2 nights in Varadero. I’ll be honest though by the last 2 days I was ready to go, not because I didn’t like the country but because I was on tour the whole time. I paid $650 for the package and it included:
- Round-trip flight from Quito-Havana
- Accommodation in resort style hotels
- Tours and transport daily
- Airport pick-up and drop-off
- All inclusive food
- All inclusive drinks while in Trinidad and Varadero
- Not included: Airport tax, spending money and drinks in Havana
I don’t normally travel on fully guided, all inclusive, pre-paid vacations as I prefer to make my own itinerary. As a budget traveler (ie; backpacker) it’s normally much cheaper this way as it allows you to be more flexible and you don’t get the cookie-cutter tour of the place your seeing. That being said, at $650 I wasn’t going to pass that up, as most flights from Quito to anywhere start at around $400+, so for another $250 on top would have been hard to beat. After visiting Cuba I can honestly say though it’s not a backpackers paradise. I’ll be writing more about the pro’s and con’s of Cuba in a later post but for the most part I didn’t see many backpackers hanging around and doing things independently.
I’ve got my pictures edited and am really pleased at how well they came out. I’ll be making posts on my trip there for the next week or so, then will finally get back to Peru in which I’m still way behind in. So bare with me and be sure to leave some comments this next few weeks on things you like/dislike.
