Tham (cave) Khao Luang is located at about 4 kilometers from Phetchaburi inside of Khao Luang Hill. This was my real reason for coming to Phetchaburi, after I had seen some images of this place before on the internet. Coming from the Ozarks in Missouri exploring caves is a must and the thought of being able to see one with a temple inside it was more then I could bare. The whole trip was worth it just to be able to see this place.
The day I went the light wasn’t that great because of the rain. I was actually hoping for a really bright sunny day (which you really never want) so that I might get some streaks of light coming into the cave from the openings at the top. There are two openings (in separate chambers) for this cave that let natural light in, with apx 92m being the highest point for the cave.. In total there are over 200 buddha statues here and the place is ran by a bunch of nuns. Cost is free but if you want an English tour guide you must pay. I opted not to because for $6 I could say the same “Oh look there… a Buddha statue! This is statue very important to Thai people.”
