A few nights ago I went down to the river here in Bangkok to eat at a friends restaurant. I had been there one time before and the food was great and even better the view. The restaurant is called Rabeang Rimnum and is family owed and operated by a local Thai family. The view is the suspended bridge over the river. I was hoping on my return that they would have the lights on for the bridge, so I could get some great shots looking up at it with reflections of the water.
I left my apartment a little later then I wanted, 6:45pm, but thought I would just pay the extra for the tolls and use the expressway, thinking I would make up for the time. At the first toll we sat on the highway not moving. I asked the driver what happened and he just shrugged his shoulders. After 20min the traffic began to move but as we went on I didn’t see any kind of wreck but a ton of police. I asked the taxi driver again why we had to wait for so long and this time he said “Stop for the King. He must have moved by car.” I think he should have to pay me back my 45baht for the wait!
So I was late and was watching the sun go down the whole time. As we got to the bridge I seen that it wasn’t lit up at all. My luck it seems, because even if I missed the sunset I was thinking I’d still get some good pictures of the bridge at dark. Long story short I at least got a free meal and an ok picture. Sometimes taking photos is all about timing and luck…this night I had neither. I just found out tonight though that the bridge is lit up. Sometimes I feel like the Thai people play games on me.
Below is the best picture I could get. The ISO used was at 1600 and caused it to be a little to grainy for my liking. If your ever along the river at night it is worth taking the camera…you never know when it might be lit up.
